As a West Sussex Cake Smash photographer based in Worthing, having photographed thousands of babies since 2010 for their first birthday photoshoots, I can honestly say each one is uniquely fun in its own individual way. From Little ones who are wide eyed & shy, maybe not even crawling yet, to babies who come right in walking & standing tall & confident as can be. Each tiny client has had a bespoke first birthday photography session with memories to last a lifetime.
A Cake Smash & Splash photography session is the perfect way to celebrate your little ones 1st birthday, its a fun age for sure & turning 1 is a big deal! Its a huge milestone age, a lot has changed over babys first year so this celebration should be done right. From the traditional clean portrait images at the start of the session to the messy Cake Smash itself, finishing with a clean up for baby in the roll top four claw bath tub with bubbles, the session with your photographer will be a memoriable one plus you get to take home a clean baby!
The warm & custom built photography studio in Worthing near Brighton was designed with client comfort in mind. Refreshments are provided & singing & being silly are encouraged whilst I work safely with your little one. With 10 years of senior Midwifery experience & having been a baby photographer near Brighton since 2010, your little one is in the safest of hands during your client journey with myself.
HOW IT WORKS
This milestone photoshoot is best held at either 11 or 12 months of age. Can either be before little ones birthday or as close to the actual big day as my diary allows. During the photoshoot with your West Sussex Cake Smash Photographer, we will be singing little ones favourite nursery rhymes, playing some peek-a-boo, making silly animal noises & no doubt being as daft as possible to capture some smiles whilst your baby smashes their cake.
Every Cake Smash set created is bespoke & custom designed for each client according to your wishes. You do not have to decide a theme on booking, but rather 6 weeks prior to your session this will be discussed at your online consult. You can choose any colour scheme or theme you would like, then working alongside the brief you have given, I as your photographer work behind the scenes to create something special for your babys photoshoot here in Sussex. Everything is provided for the session, this includes the outfits from the vast collection of 6-12 month old dresses, rompers & tutus from the huge Honey Pie client wardrobe. A selection of clothing is hand picked prior to you arriving, which is chosen to match your colour scheme or theme, you make the final decision on the outfit. *Your cake is also included & will be supplied from a local baker, which you can take home afterwards – IF theres any left!
Will your baby delicately & carefully pick the icing off the cake, or dive in face first – lets go ahead & find out!
BOOKING IN
A £99 retainer is required in order to secure your booking. This will be refunded to you as a deduction from your chosen digital package when you are invited back to the studio for a relaxed ordering appointment to view your images 3 weeks after your session.

*In the rare instance following on from allergy discussions if my baker is unable to supply the cake, the client will be asked to provide the cake from an external supplier. In this situation £30 will be noted as a credit owed to the client during their ordering appointment of digital files.*

YOUR QUESTIONS
What themes or colour schemes are available?
For your little ones Cake Smash session you are welcome to choose anything at all that you would like, if its possible, I am open to creating anything you desire & i enjoy creating new & exciting sets. If you cannot think of anything, dont worry, I may suggest creating a Pinterest board or colours/themes/pretty things that you love the look of & I will go from there to create something special for your babys session. I take great pride in creating special & beautiful sets for little ones turning one as i genuinely do think its a huge deal, going from a few months old to turning one is big! Turning one is a huge deal & deserves to be celebrated as such.
Do i need to bring anything for the session?
You will be advised in your Cake Smash prep guide via email of what you need to bring along to your session – but in a nutshell, some snacks for little one, a towel, some bubble bath & your usual baby bag is all that you need to bring along.
The set up of decorations to make a beautiful custom made set for your baby & all the outfits for little one are provided from the vast collection of props in the Honey Pie studio in accordance with your colour scheme, the cake is also provided via my baker in accordance to dietry requirements*
*On some rare occasions due to allergies parents may need to source & bring their own cake to the session.
My partner works Monday-Friday, can we do the session at the weekend?
Absolutely Cake Smashes can be held on a Saturday with no additonal fees (unlike Saturday newborn sessions which incur an additional £50 surcharge). The studio is completely closed on a Sunday.
Can siblings attend the session?
Siblings are welcome to attend for a couple of sibling shots before we start with the Cake Smash, these images will be taken before we take babys portrait images & but will only be a few images. The reason for this is that the session itself will be around 60 long & the session itself is a lot of stimulation for a one year old, we dont want baby getting too tired before we get to the splash part of the session.
After the few sibling shots are taken i do ask that they are collected or taken for a walk with a 3rd adult – be that a grandparent or friend whilst we continue with the main event – little ones 1st birthday Cake Smash of which we need two adults in attendance for. Unfortunately its no fun watching your baby sibling eat cake, so this is why i ask that the older siblings are collected.
My baby has allergies, can we still have a Cake Smash?
Absolutely we have created many diary free cakes for our Cake Smashes, just let me know on booking or 6 weeks before your session & I can inform my baker. If baby has additional allergy requirements in some instances parents may need to supply the cake – contact me below to discuss this further.
How do we book?
Simply get in touch & let me know when your baby is turning one year old by using the contact form below, £99 secures your shoot. This £99 is then taken off of your chosen digital package when your images are ready for you.
Ideally I need at least 4 weeks notice in order to provide you with a bespoke Cake Smash shoot for your little one. Bookings can be taken 12 months before baby turns 1 or up to one month before.Â
A lot of effort is put in behind the scenes to custom design a Cake Smash experience for your baby in accordance to your chosen colour scheme or theme – no two of my Cake Smash sets are ever the same, even if you choose a theme that has been done before, I take great pride in making each set unique & special. I will liase with you around 6 weeks before your session to ask what theme or colour scheme you would like, your babys nap schedule will also be discussed then so we can plan a suitable start time for the session & also if little one has any allergies or dietry requirements.
When do we see our images?
Following your session, around 3 weeks later you will be invited back to an ordering appointment to view your images this is when you will choose your digital package along with any additonal products.Â
